Ohhhh yesssssss…. It’s time to celebrate the 25th release on Equinox Records! We are so happy to finally release this neat box set package that contains a 7inch, a custom USB stick and an audio cassette.
Buddy Peace & Phonatic provided us with two of the dopest megamixes possibly ever made! 2 x 25 minutes of action packed Equinox sound – cut up, edited, remixed. Whether you are familiar with the Equinox catalogue or not – you have to check this out!
Generous people as we all are, we want to share these mixes with you FOR FREE and also want to encourage you to SHARE THEM with your friends, to post them on your blog, or whatever. Please just copy the following link:

and/or link to the official release page:

You can also post the links to our mixcloud or soundcloud accounts.
But thats that not all folks! Equinox Records wouldn’t be called Equinox Records if there wasn’t a dope piece of vinyl included in the package as well. Therefore, Part II of this gorgeous package is a bunch of unreleased remixes from the label archive. Amongst these are tunes from the never released remix EP that was planned for the 2008 release “One Year & A Day – A Sound Exposure Vol.2“. The A side of the vinyl contains Deadpan Darling’s “Laugh Track” remixed by Deckard. And on the flip, 2econd Class Citizen’s classic “Wishing Well” gets reworked by The Raincoatman and Vangel from Canada. Further tracks on the digital version include “A Year And A Day” by The Peddlers (with Roy Phillips), remixed by Twistedlogic & Pesticyde, “A New Day” by 2econd Class Citizen this time remixed by DJ Phonatic and a new version of Asup’s “Untitled” by lodsb. If you are not into buying nice looking boxsets you buy these tracks seperately on itunes and many other download stores:
Last but not least, as Part III of the box set, we are happy to release the 2007 tour video that features incredible unseen live footage by Ceschi, Noah23, The Dedicated Beatheads & 2econd Class Citizen. The 50 minute movie is definitely fun to watch and is available on the ultra limited 2 GB USB Stick that comes along with the first 50 copies of the box set. However, those who buy the cheaper normal package (without the USB) will receive a free download code for the whole video.
So yeah, that’s it folks. Hope we’ll soon be able to hit number 50!

Ceschi’s album “The One Man Band Broke Up”, entirely produced by DJ Scientist, was released in June 2010 and immediately became a success on the independent market. Many magazines and fans already designated it “album of the year”, Okayplayer called it “a significant piece of art”, giving it 89 of 100 points, while URB mag even stated it is „one of the best conceptual hip hop records to drop in the past decade“.
Aside from Ceschi’s incredible lyrical talent, many reviewers honorably mentioned the beautifully arranged and detailed production work backing the vocals, recognizing it as a major force behind the success of the album. On the instrumental version of “The One Man Band Broke Up”, that is now released as a beautiful limited vinyl picture disc on Equinox Records, one can hear how meticulously those songs have been put together and arranged, and how all tracks, alongside sundry interludes and vocal samples, result in a new and one of a kind album that is equally as entertaining, bright and powerful as any Blockhead or RJD2 release. With cinematic drums, a large variety of sounds and samples as well as chopped live instruments, main tracks like “Half Mast”, “No New York” and “Hangman” stand out with hard hitting beats while the more mellow and folky tunes like “Bad Jokes” or “Long Live The Short Lived” give the album the smooth melancholy bliss Scientist is known for.
Without even trying, “The One Man Band Instrumentals” by DJ Scientist could possibly be one of the best organic sounding instrumental hip hop releases this year.

Equinox Records presents:
The ‘Strange Citizens’ Tour
Featuring:
Ceschi (USA – Equinox Records / Fake Four)
2econd Class Citizen (London, UK – Equinox Records)
Buddy Peace (London, UK – Strange Famous Records)
October 6th – 16th 2010
Ladies, gentlemen and kinfolk, we would like to formally invite you to our three man show. Taking place over ten days in October 2010, we will be taking our music on the road to selected locations in Europe, to bring you our delightfully demented and deliciously powerful blend of beats and rhymes.
We bring you Ceschi, the one man band who is as comfortable freaking a solo set as he is working with any combination of his amazing group of friends (such as the Fake Four squadron, for example). Having toured and worked with Sole, Mykah 9 and Awol One (to name but a few), Ceschi displays the elements of rap which are always begging to be set free- uniqueness, creativity and pure originality. With a heavy hitting foundation of acoustic folk and abstract hip hop, expect a skilful and hugely entertaining presentation of what hip hop music can do when it is gently pushed in the right direction. His fantastic current album, ‘The One Man Band Broke Up’, is out now on Equinox Records and making much noise.
2econd Class Citizen is right up there riding shotgun (in a triple barrel sense), strapped with a punishing array of dusty drum breaks, sweet sample psychedelia and two very busy hands. With a wide sample-based repertoire which often extends into live instrumentation and areas far beyond conventional instrumental beat based music, 2CC’s live set incorporates heavy manipulation and extreme head nod potential, providing a vibrant and hefty showcase of bitter-sweet but straight up bumping productions. His work and stage time with Noah23, Ceschi, Nosaj thing, Ugly Duckling and even prog-rock legends Gong give some indication of the standards of dopeness you can expect from 2CC.
Buddy Peace is also in the building. Currently signed to Strange Famous Records, the label run by indie hip hop legend Sage Francis, Buddy has some treats to share with you. From a background of DJing and prolific mixtape production, he has been producing for a good while and has produced/scratched/DJ’d for Buck 65, Sage Francis, B Dolan, 2Mex and Prince Po to name a couple. The Buddy live show mushes together the DJ and production elements, with live MPC drums and programming with a very turntable mind-set, and you can surely expect some head-pounding and cheerfully savage drums, cuts and invention which bring out the creative and rugged side of hip hop music.
We would be honoured by your company. We will not disappoint you. We will be very happy to see you. The Strange Citizen tour will make October of 2010 a very wonderful month indeed. Let’s catch up…

Ceschi Interview on Substance-M.net
Almost a year ago, Ceschi was interviewed in Berlin by German journalist Bianca Ludewig while he was on tour in Europe. The interview is now published in French and Englisch on the website Substance-M. It is still very interesting to read and features a lot of background information about Ceschi, his own label Fake Four, and his collaboration with DJ Scientist.

Ceschi Album praised by URB Magazine
URB reviewed Ceschi’s DJ Scientist produced The One Man Band Broke Up and gave it 4/5!
From the sound of the review, however, it seems that they enjoyed the album more than just that. They believe that The One Man Band Broke Up is “one of the best conceptual hip hop records to drop in the past decade.” And go on to say, “In an industry flooded with artists deluded into seeing themselves as jacks-of-all-trades, Ceschi is the real deal.”
Those are some pretty bold statements. Click here to read the review!

Rhythm Incursions May Podcast
The may podcast of Rhythm Incursions features tracks from all 3 new Equinox releases by Kraddy, Andreikelos and Ceschi. Additionally, more great music from labels like All City, Musique Large, Planet Mu, Project: Mooncircle, and others.
http://www.rhythm-incursions.com/2010/05/28/rhythm-incursions-may-10/
This month’s show follows our usual format with 2 hours of new and forthcoming music from the likes of Hightone, Breakage, Ceschi, Kraddy, Si Begg, Paul White, The Bug, The Roots, Houseshoes, Machinedrum, Ital Tek, Digital Mystikz, Danny Breaks, Dday One, Charles Trees, Roots Manuva, Foreign Beggars and Dabrye, The Blessings and many more. Alongside this we’ve got a world premier of the EAN remix of Om Unit’s Searching, which is forthcoming on Stretched Records. The mini feature for this month continues our recent Japanese theme (last one for a while promise!) with a look at the work of Olive Oil, a producer we’ve rated for a long time and who was definitely pioneering the whole beats/electronic hip hop thing since 05/06 in his native Japan. As with many other Japanese producers he’s not that well known outside Japan but his work definitely deserves a closer look so we’ve got four tracks from releases over the last 5 years to give you an idea. And if you like what you hear be sure to check his guest mix for us from last summer.

Ceschi – The One Man Band Broke Up – Free Track
Today, we want to give you an update about Ceschi‘s long awaited new album entitled “The One Man Band Broke Up” to be released on Equinox Records / Fake Four Inc. in June.
The album was entirely produced by DJ Scientist and features musical contributions (large and small) by artists like Sole, Radical Face, Astronautalis, 2econd Class Citizen, Shoshin, Mic King and many others. It’s a concept record and is on the darker side of Ceschi and DJ Scientist‘s musical spectrum. But you can definitely expect some of the strongest songs both artists have ever released.
To give you an idea about the sound, we are excited to offer you one free track called “No New York“:

Ceschi – Postcard Package – Out Now
Today, we proudly present one of the coolest and most beautiful releases on our label so far:
Ceschi’s “Postcard Package” is a set of 3 lovely vinyl postcards including 3 completely exclusive songs (not to be released digitally or on any other format) produced by DJ Scientist. The set is limited to 25 hand numbered copies only. The 60s styled artwork was done by The Raincoatman.
Available for pre-order via a hidden link on the Equinox Records website the cards were sold out quickly. Originally, the set was planned for release in early 2009 (hence the low catalogue number) but due to some manufacturing difficulties and other unfortunate incidents (e.g. the postcards were lost for a couple of weeks on the way from the manufacturer) the release date got pushed back until 2010.
But luckily, everything worked out nicely in the end as you can see on the pictures. And a couple of true fans that found the link on our website and have send us a message are very happy to have already received their personal copies.
Still, there is one FINAL CHANCE TO WIN THE LAST AVAILABLE COPY of the sets (#3 of 25). If you haven’t signed in for the Equinox newsletter yet, please do so until Sunday April 11th and you will receive further instructions about the contest in our next mailout.
