Random News #3 (April 2012)
Here we are with our new issue of Random News for April 2012!
Lot’s been going on and we are all working brutally hard to get the best out of it, so we’ll be swift and on point! (Ok, consider this “brutally” part as a joke – we’re actually enjoying this!)
Let’s begin with some news for 2econd Class Citizen since there’s a lot going on due to the release of his outstanding “Outside Your Doorway EP” and the long-anticipated full length “The Small Minority” which will drop next month (!)…
——————————————————————————————————————————–
Outside Your Doorway EP news
About a week ago, we announced the release of the digital version for 2CC‘s new EP entitled “Outside Your Doorway” and we’re already getting some amazing feedback.
Here’s a small portion of what’s been said:
Trippin’ The Rift

Also note that “Outside Your Doorway” is now available on Last FM
http://www.lastfm.de/music/2econd+Class+Citizen/Outside+Your+Doorway+EP
Aside from that we have gained some really positive feedback from a bunch of like minded artists that really enjoyed the new album:
“Really lovely moments on here. Nice…”
Fink (Ninja Tune)
“Your Album sounds great, congratulations! I definitely want to check out your record collection as you obviously had some crazy stuff!”
DJ Format
“okay man, I gotta tell you: your album is fucking BEAUTIFUL. I’m in love with it already. So lush! I’m about 2/3 in but I just thought I’d ‘live text’ it! Incredible work brother.“
Buddy Peace
“I’m loving your album so much, the layers and subtleties in it are amazing. The pace is generally slow and the mood melancholy but it never feels morose or depressing, there’s a kind of beautiful sadness to it, and such gorgeous acoustic samples.”
DJ Food (Ninja Tune)
“Great work! Proper chilly out sample loveliness!”
Olli Teeba (Herbaliser, Ninja Tune)
Last (but not least), the main track of the EP is also featured on “Tape of The Month: April 2012” on “Παλιοτράκτερα” (ok, this may seem Greek to you but still on point)

Additional 2econd Class Citizen news…
In the past Random News issue (#2 March 2012) we mentioned DJ Food’s new album “The Search Engine” in which 2CC is featured… Well, here’s an astonishing new single from this album, entitled “The Illectrik Hoax” which also features a remix by 2econd Class Citizen.
Find out more about it here:

Switching to DJ Scientist
First, we’d like to share an amazing remix that DJ Scientist did back in 2003 for the track “It Ain’t Nothing Like” by The Pharcyde. This remix also reveals the – unknown to most – funky side of the Equinox Records’ founder!
Listen, download and share.

Continuing, here is a really nice review on DEAD Magazine for the rare (even digitally) “The Artless Cuckoo EP”
http://www.deadmagazine.de/2012/04/07/dj-scientist-the-artless-cuckoo-ep/
For those who missed it, this was released in February as an ultra-limited vinyl and also limited-time digital release, as an announcement for DJ Scientist’s upcoming full length instrumental album. So be on the lookout!

And finally we’d like to close this issue with this new video from “The One Man Band Broke Up” album by Ceschi & DJ Scientist, titled “Lament for Captain Julius”, directed and edited by Ray Willis and starring Alexander Esparza and Ceschi Ramos

Till then…
Cheers to all y’all and stay tuned!
Sincerely,
the Equinox Records team.

Left Field Documentary w/ Ceschi, DJ Scientist & 2econd Class Citizen
End of this month, the great left fields documentary (that partly features the Equinox artists Ceschi, 2econd Class Citizen and DJ Scientist) will be available on DVD. Don’t miss to get one of the limited copies that come in a fantastic hand made silk screen cover. You can already pre-order the DVD right here and we will ship it as soon as we have it on stock:
http://www.e-q-x.net/shop/dvds/left-fields-the-documentary-dvd/
OFFICIAL LEFT FIELDS TRAILER from idunno on Vimeo.
Here is more info about the documentary:
Interviewing MCs, label operators, producers and bookers, “left fields” explores the network of genre-crossing artists such as Ceschi, Noah23, Babel Fishh, Th’ Mole, Gonjasufi, Robot Koch, Comfort Fit, Fulgeance, Oskar Ohlson, who collaborate within networks across Germany, Switzerland and Austria. So basically it is a lot about the spirit and maybe punk attitude of this movement.
Working with a very limited budget “left fields” tries to provide an insight into the alternative hip hop scene featuring various concerts, the development of art work (design, screen-printing, etc.) and of course the opinions and stories of everyone involved. “left fields” comes with a hand-made, screen printed cover on a limited edition DVD and is going to be launched in Austrian cinemas and festivals in December 2011.

Equinox 2012 Calendar Available Now!
In cooperation with the Berlin-based designer Sara Krines, Equinox Records presents a very special and limited wall calendar for 2012. The experimental calendar is like the long-form version of a TokyoFlash watch: There’s a learning curve you need to get around before you can read it.
As Krines describes it,
My approach is to organize time (months, weeks and days) in an unusual way. Taking my personal needs into consideration, I designed a calendar which divides the year into 12 months. Each month is divided into 7 fields which represent the days of the week. Within these fields, the dates, which fall on that particular weekday in the respective month, are listed.
For example: In January 2012 the 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th fall on a Monday. Therefore these dates are shown within the field of Monday, January 2012. In addition, I developed a very easy code to replace words (names of months and weeks). This code underlines the cubistic form of the calendar and is explained in a graphic which is printed on the packaging.
Additionally to the calendar, there is a limited and exclusive CD compilation called “Re/Introspective 2011/12” that contains 12 tracks featuring Ceschi, Deckard, 2econd Class Citizen, Sole And The Skyrider Band, Misanthrop & Aqua Luminus III., J. Baracuz, David Vangel, Geste, Andreikelos, PollyJean and DJ Scientist. The tracks are partly unreleased and give a brief outlook of what to expect from our label in 2012 as well as giving a retrospective view on some music that has been released via Equinox in 2011.
The calendar package with the CD is a MUST HAVE for all Equinox fans and collectors and will be sold out quickly (25 copies only!). Don’t hesitate to place your order as soon as it is available.
The calendar is available for purchase HERE.
SOLD OUT SOLD OUT SOLD OUT
Notes: The calendar comes seperated as 12 monthly fields as well as the “2012” field and can be put together with double side duct tape (included in package). Calendar and CD are delivered in a beautifully designed package in DIN A4 size. The total measure of the calendar is approx. 70 x 90 cm.

DJ Unkut Interview – DMC Online World Champion 2011
Aside from usually just posting news on the Equinox website, here is an interview with DJ Unkut, the current DMC Online World DJ Champion. Text and Interview by Equinox founder DJ Scientist:
Being an ambitious turntablist myself back in the late 90s, becoming the DMC World Champion has been the ultimate goal of every DJ in the world. Before the “internet age” my friends and I watched DMC videos a thousand times to learn new tricks and were inspired by DJs from all over the world.
Now in 2011, after David Fascher, Pro Zeiko and Rafik, DJ Unkut from Wuppertal is the forth German DJ that has reached this goal and became this year’s DMC Online World Champion a few weeks ago. Even for “just” being an online competition this year, this is still a BIG thing and Unkut was invited to perform at the DMC World DJ Championship Festival in London this weekend. Unfortunately, due to heatlth problems he couldn’t attend the event and possibly add another title (Congratulations to DJ Vajra for winning though).
Quite interesting, for those who read this on the Equinox page, DJ Unkut has used a track from the Equinox Records catalogue to reach his goal. His incredible 2 minute Godzilla Porn Routine, which uses the Mochipet Remix of Kraddy’s “Android Porn”, paved his way to the final round in which the track was used again. This, of course, makes us at Equinox quite a bit proud.
Here are a few short questions to DJ Unkut:
- How does it feel to be the new DMC Online World Champion? This must be a dream coming true.
Unkut: Well, its a pretty cool reward for all the hard work I’d say. I like the format of this competition, it’s a bit more “stress free” and now that it is allowed to use DVS + FX, it was pretty motivating and challenging for me to compete. I’m proud to be the first DMC Online World Champ ever + I got voted 1st place by every single judge. It couldn’t have been any better : )
- How did you come across using the “Android Porn” Mochipet remix for your Routine?
Unkut: Actually, I was just listening and downloading some music, until I stumbled across Mochipet’s Remix of Android porn. I heard it and directly knew, I had to do a routine with it. I worked out the first patterns with the original song, but got stuck at a point. So, I just wrote David (aka Mochipet) a message if it would be possible to get audio stems from the song, hoping he’d even read my mail. A few days later, I had everything I needed to finish the routine. Thx again Mochi, you’re the man : )
What kind of music does inspire you mostly these days?
Unkut: To be honest, these days im making music all day long and don’t even have time to listen to a lot of other music. But in general, it’s everything from Hip Hop to Nu Jazz, Glitch Hop, Electro, Classic, Alternative and some Dubstep.
- What have you prepared for the World Championship Festival? Who are the other competitors?
Unkut: Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete at the event, due to health problems. During the time the online final went down, I spend too much time in hospital and couldn’t practice the way I would have needed to.
Had to recover first. I might be back : )

Playpad Circus Wins Finest Ego Beat Challenge
Congratulations to Playpad Circus who won the first Finest Ego Beat Challenge in Berlin yesterday. It was a tight decision for the judges between the top 3 contestants who all had incredible sets – but the crowd seemed to have especially loved PPC’s contrabass solo which made him stand out from the other producers.
All in all a great evening with some really good skilled new producers and great life sets by Comfort Fit, Flako and Robot Koch.

Geste – The Eating Concrete Remix Contest

Taking a look back at 2010
Hi everyone & happy new year!
Sorry for being offline for a few days. We were working on a new online shop on the back end of our homepage which is almost finished now. Soon you will be able to buy Equinox products on this page directly!
As for taking a look back on 2010, it has been a really good and productive year for us. Highlights included Ceschi & DJ Scientist’s “The One Man Band Broke Up” album, “The 25th” release box set and also the more club oriented 12″s by Kraddy & Son Of Kick. Including the ultra limited collector’s editions of Ceschi’s “Postcard Package” and 2econd Class Citizen’s “Divided Reality” re-issue we had 9 releases this year and we are looking forward to be even more productive in 2011!
We already have a lot of new hot material in the pipeline: A super limited new Ceschi 10inch will be available soon and Geste also finished the work on his new and exiting “Eating Concrete EP”. Apart from this there is lot more to come which we will let you know about soon.
So yeah, thanks for the support in 2010 and stay tuned in 2011!
