Random News #13
Hi and welcome to our Random News #13
It has been a while since our last issue but we will try to keep this as short as possible.
Let’s go…
About a year ago, Equinox founder, DJ Scientist was filmed diggin’ records in Berlin for Diggin Is A Science. A few weeks ago, it was finally published on YouTube!
Enjoy and share!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trxSuVUVIRg
More importantly, his new project together with Fulgeance is about to be released this year in form of a single and full length album.
DJ Scientist dug out a haul of rare samples for the French MPC virtuoso Fulgeance (one half of Souleance) who transformed the source material into one of the most exciting beat maker projects this year: ‘The Soviet Tape‘.
A first single, ‘Moscow Nightlife‘, will be released in late September / early october on First Word Records from the UK and is aimed squarely at the DJs and the diggers with three dope instrumental Hip-Hop tracks.
On the album, you can expect more fire from Fulgeance and DJ Scientist’s beat arsenal as well as some dope features by the likes of Blu, Open Mike Eagle, Distant Starr and more!

Next up, we’ve got a fantastic new video of 2econd class citizen performing “Here Comes The Sun“!

Random News #10
Greetings and welcome to Random News #10.
We’ve “missed” a couple of issues due to a great overload of work, and yet, some things that should be included on this issue may have passed our notice, but this is only natural since we are currently working on the “Counter Future” project which is our biggest so far and consists of 2 12inch EPs, a 3LP full length album, a flexi disc release as well as some other stuff.

Random News #8 (Oct-Nov 2012)
Greetings to all “Random News” readers! Creativity is bursting lately and we have been so busy we even had to skip the last issue… but we are back on track now with a rather long 2-month list of “random” news to make up!
Here we go…
——————————————————————————-
First, we’d like to start with DJ Scientist who has been getting quite a lot of attention lately, due to the release of his debut album “For Better, For Worse” as well as his single “Raincoatman”.
Right bellow, we made a selection of reviews, quotes and statements by the press and fellow artists around the globe, but, before we do this, be sure to check
DJ Scientist’s extensive 3-page interview on Star Wax Magazine France
which you can download for free here:
http://dl.free.fr/getfile.pl?file=/1oBVx2TB
And here’s the selection of quotes and reviews (linked):

…and some quotes
HHV-Mag Germany:
„Eine große Verbeugung vor dem Hip Hop.“
La Mixletter France:
“Take the opportunity to discover, or rediscover, this multi-talented artist”
“Raincoatman” Reviews & Quotes”…

Last but not least, read what’s been said by some inspirational fellow artists…
DJ Food (Ninja Tune): “(I’ve) been giving it a good few listens here and favourites are ‘The Death of Hip-Hop’, ‘Raincoatman’ and ‘Anything About Nothing’. Nice work – there’s plenty of layers to unravel.”
Buddy Peace (Strange Famous): “Equinox has managed once again to rearrange and manipulate what we know as instrumental hip hop and drag it into line while marching it directly into the sunlight. DJ Scientist has created an album that amplifies moods, finesses instrumentation and somehow achieves subtlety while being utterly banging. A rare treat for the forward thinking beat-head.”
DJ Format: “Great moody soundscapes and raw heavy drums are the perfect formula from this Scientist!”
Sneaky (Fingathing): “One for the Headphones! Refreshing to hear such an organic flow in the current digital fever.”
Dday One (Content Label / Project: Mooncircle): “In this age of mass communication it’s definitely “for Better” DJ Scientist is releasing this project to the world. It would only be “For Worse” if this timeless collection remanded hidden.”
——————————————————————————-
Finally, as you may know, „For Better, For Worse“ is part 2 (out of 2) of the Unheard and Recovered Series which means that the series is now complete. If you missed part 1, then you’ve missed a great release by our artist, Deckard, entitled “Echoes From The Past”.

Finally (Is there someone partying behind a screen right now?) … As we began this issue with an interview, we’d also like to close it with another one, this time by our artist Andreikelos who has provided an extensive interview in Greek language (but hey, worth going to http://translate.google.de for a translation) on Viberated.com

The Small Minority *DJ Food Megamix*
——————————————————————————————————————————–
The first preview of “The Small Minority” came almost a month ago, and – in our opinion – in the best from…
Our colleague and good friend, Strictly Kev a.k.a. DJ Food of Ninja Tunes Records who has always been a keen supporter of 2econd Class Citizen and of our Label, has made an amazing Megamix in which he has cut, edited and mixed the album tracks skillfully to fit 16 minutes, making this the perfect promotional tool for the album (thank you S.K.)
Here is the mix as posted on DJ Food’s website:
http://www.djfood.org/djfood/2econd-class-citizen-album-preview-megamix
Speaking of the 2CC / DJ Food collaboration…
If you haven’t yet heard, here’s a 2econd Class Citizen remix for DJ Food’s “The-Illectrik-Hoax” released in April on Ninja Tune:

Random News #3 (April 2012)
Here we are with our new issue of Random News for April 2012!
Lot’s been going on and we are all working brutally hard to get the best out of it, so we’ll be swift and on point! (Ok, consider this “brutally” part as a joke – we’re actually enjoying this!)
Let’s begin with some news for 2econd Class Citizen since there’s a lot going on due to the release of his outstanding “Outside Your Doorway EP” and the long-anticipated full length “The Small Minority” which will drop next month (!)…
——————————————————————————————————————————–
Outside Your Doorway EP news
About a week ago, we announced the release of the digital version for 2CC‘s new EP entitled “Outside Your Doorway” and we’re already getting some amazing feedback.
Here’s a small portion of what’s been said:
Trippin’ The Rift
http://trippintherift.com/en/archives/2271
Data Transmission
http://www.datatransmission.co.uk/ViewReview/3161/
Also note that “Outside Your Doorway” is now available on Last FM
http://www.lastfm.de/music/2econd+Class+Citizen/Outside+Your+Doorway+EP
Aside from that we have gained some really positive feedback from a bunch of like minded artists that really enjoyed the new album:
“Really lovely moments on here. Nice…”
Fink (Ninja Tune)
“Your Album sounds great, congratulations! I definitely want to check out your record collection as you obviously had some crazy stuff!”
DJ Format
“okay man, I gotta tell you: your album is fucking BEAUTIFUL. I’m in love with it already. So lush! I’m about 2/3 in but I just thought I’d ‘live text’ it! Incredible work brother.“
Buddy Peace
“I’m loving your album so much, the layers and subtleties in it are amazing. The pace is generally slow and the mood melancholy but it never feels morose or depressing, there’s a kind of beautiful sadness to it, and such gorgeous acoustic samples.”
DJ Food (Ninja Tune)
“Great work! Proper chilly out sample loveliness!”
Olli Teeba (Herbaliser, Ninja Tune)
Last (but not least), the main track of the EP is also featured on “Tape of The Month: April 2012” on “Παλιοτράκτερα” (ok, this may seem Greek to you but still on point)
paliotraktera.gr
——————————————————————————————————————————–
Additional 2econd Class Citizen news…
In the past Random News issue (#2 March 2012) we mentioned DJ Food’s new album “The Search Engine” in which 2CC is featured… Well, here’s an astonishing new single from this album, entitled “The Illectrik Hoax” which also features a remix by 2econd Class Citizen.
Find out more about it here:
http://ninjatune.net/release/dj-food/the-illectrik-hoax-a-monstrous-psychedelic-bubble-mix-by-the-amorphous-androgynous
——————————————————————————————————————————–
Switching to DJ Scientist
First, we’d like to share an amazing remix that DJ Scientist did back in 2003 for the track “It Ain’t Nothing Like” by The Pharcyde. This remix also reveals the – unknown to most – funky side of the Equinox Records’ founder!
Listen, download and share.
http://soundcloud.com/djscientist/the-pharcyde-nuttin-like
Continuing, here is a really nice review on DEAD Magazine for the rare (even digitally) “The Artless Cuckoo EP”
http://www.deadmagazine.de/2012/04/07/dj-scientist-the-artless-cuckoo-ep/
For those who missed it, this was released in February as an ultra-limited vinyl and also limited-time digital release, as an announcement for DJ Scientist’s upcoming full length instrumental album. So be on the lookout!
Here’s the official “Artless Cuckoo” release page: http://www.e-q-x.net/releases/eqx034/

And now, for closure, we’d like to share this nice commercial video about Rhone Runner which features Geste’s “Eating Concrete” (Signal² Remix) from the “Re-Think Concrete” release!

the Equinox Records team.

That would be all for now. It’s almost certain we may have missed a thing or two but, as said earlier, we’re hard-working on our upcoming releases, so be on the lookout for more news very-very soon!
Till then…
Cheers to all y’all and stay tuned!
Sincerely,
the Equinox Records team.
